slash 4x4 center bearing??
does anybody know how to do the center bearing mod on the 4x4 where you somehow use a bearing inside of the larger center bearing on the front of the slipper or center diff to eliminate the plastic bushing? If not i was thinking about getting the dimensions and machining one out of aluminum. Anybody know how that would do? Or would it just cause problems with the plastic motor mount? The plastic peice on mine is melted to the spring and slipper shaft and the bearing is done. Ive read about others having this problem.

Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
i dont know about modifying it but i did the same thing to my center diff with a ceramic bearing,i put the slipper back in,scotty told me i shouldnt have used the fluid diff with a 3c lipo but i dont remember reading that.the problem is dirt getting in there, that and all the debris from my blown spur gear did it in.i just put a strc motot mount in but it has a lot of openings,im gonna seal them with servo tape.the strc stuff stiffens up the whole truck,i am very happy with their stuff, later buddy
Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
ive been looking at some strc stuff for the slash, i just dont see the need to spend money on aluminum stuff before the plastic breaks. But the motor mount might be an exception. I ran the center diff yesterday and liked it. Seemed to give the truck a little of a 2wd feel when sliding through the corners, but still had enough power going to the front wheels to keep the truck from spinning out. I think im gonna run the center diff from now on.

i was very happy with the center diff i only changed it to the slipper because i fried it.i have another one on order,i think the parts issue with this truck is b.s.
Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
i agree with you on that. The slash 4x4 is a great truck imo, with few issues. I havent had any major breakages as of yet, It could be because it was "tested for durability" before i got it lol. Its my favorite rc ive had in a while. Another battery or 2 and i will be content with what ive got....... For now.

Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
yes it was sorry to hear that it happened again. That makes number 4 on the center bearings getting wasted in that particular truck, and 2 of them were Boca's (the high $$ ones) IMO it's a poor design/engineering on traxxas's part. you could try and use the strc peice, but i don't think it will help much with the problem. the center diff/slipper is only supported by that one bearing and any dirt/debris that gets lodged in the rear diff input will put the shaft on a bind. Thus, causing the center bearing to fail due to unwanted heat. I've said it once and, I will say it again, those trucks are maintenance pigs. one weekend of hard playing equals one day of hard cleaning.

Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
found an aluminum replacement for the plastic bearing adapter at amainhobbies.com. ordered tht and a nstrc motor mount. hopefully when i get these peices on and close up some of the gaps to keep the dirt out it will help the bearing to last longer and not have to worry about it going out everytime i drive the truck.

Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
are you talking about the alum motor mount that the bearing sits in? i put one of those in i like the extra support it gives but there are lots of openings for dirt to get in...
Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
yes its the one the bearing rides in. Ive got some old foam motorcycle air filters im going to cut up to fill the openings with so it will stille be able to breathe andlet heat out, but will also keep dirt and debris out. Plus i run the overtray.

Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
im using foam also, but the overtray doesnt fit because the mamba esc is to big,i gave my undertray to sinister cause i didnt like it but i might have to get another one....later
Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
or you could try one of the outerwears covers like bear runs. Its a mesh and acts like a "pre-filter". And from what ive seen seems to work nicely, and another upside it has on an overtray is it lets airflow in. Pretty sure they run about $30. I think with it not being a solid peice it should fit over your esc without any problems.

Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
I do like the outerwear cover, it keeps out stuff much better than I thought plus it keeps the air flowing in there, helping with the heat.
Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
i ordered one last night plus some shock covers and an air filter cover for my basher revo.where me and sinister run there are pebbles and rocks galore, that and the sand is tearing up alot of stuff.later, steve
Re: slash 4x4 center bearing??
i got all the parts for the 4x4 in today and just got it all put back together. For some reason i didnt get the strc motor mount, i dint get charged for it so its really no big deal, ill just order another one. But the aluminum bearing adapter is a nice peice and should hold up a little better than the stock plastic. Cant wait to get this thing back out on a track.
